Day 178 (4th July) – Cooinda Campground, NT to Mary River roadhouse, NT
Packed up and headed for Mary River roadhouse. Dropped the vans off and drove into Gunlom falls. Had a quick picnic lunch before climbing to the top and spending an hour or two in the amazing rockpools at the top.
Day 179 (5th July) – Mary River roadhouse, NT to Katherine, NT
Left Mary River roadhouse in the morning and made our way to Katherine. Did a quick shop and then checked into the caravan park. Visited the hot springs in the afternoon.
Day 180 (6th July) – Katherine, NT
Spent the day catching up with shopping and swimming in the caravan park pool.
Day 181 (7th July) – Katherine, NT
Went on a self guided canoe tour of Katherine gorge which was fantastic. Swam again in the afternoon.
Day 182 (8th July) – Katherine, NT to Gorrie airstrip, NT
Left Katherine in the morning and visited Bitter Springs in Mataranka. Continued drivi
ng for about 80kms south of Mataranka and stayed on an old WW2 airstrip.
Day 183 (9th July) – Gorrie airstrip, NT to Banka Banka Station, NT
Stopped into Daly Waters pub mid morning and had some cake and a drink. Kids loved the novelty items in and around the pub. Continued on to Banka Banka Station which we had stayed at during our last trip. This time it was much busier but still much the same as it was 9 years ago.
Day 184 (10th July) – Banka Banka Station, NT to Camooweal, QLD
Left the station reasonably early for a big day on the road. We drove down to Tennant Creek for fuel and then continued on towards the QLD border. Unfortunately we had a strong headwind so we got terrible fuel economy! Found a lovely spot to camp by the by the Georgina River.
